Subaru Canada: 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and WRX Earn Highest Award from IIHS
12 October, 2017

  • The redesigned 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and the 2018 Subaru WRX join the ranks of 2017 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ winners.

  • Subaru’s small crossover, the Crosstrek, has optional front crash prevention that earns a superior rating.

  • Improved headlights boost the 2018 WRX to become a TOP SAFETY PICK+.

(MISSISSAUGA) — Subaru Canada, Inc. (SCI) is thrilled to announce that five Subaru models have now been awarded the highest possible safety rating, TOP SAFETY PICK+, by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and WRX now join the 2018 Legacy, Outback, Forester and Impreza (when equipped with optional EyeSight and specific headlights) in achieving a 2017 IIHS TSP+ designation.

To earn the TSP+ award, a vehicle must have good ratings in all five IIHS crashworthiness tests – small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints – an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and an acceptable or good headlight rating.

In addition to across-the-board good crashworthiness ratings, the Crosstrek has optional front crash prevention that earns a superior rating. In IIHS track tests at 12 mph and 25 mph, a Crosstrek equipped with Subaru’s original EyeSight driver-assist system avoided collisions. It also has a forward collision warning system that meets National Highway Traffic Safety Administration criteria. When equipped with high-beam assist and LED lights, the 2018 WRX earns a good headlight rating in 2017 evaluations.

“With so much attention being paid to safety, Subaru shines,” said Yasushi Enami, chairman, president and CEO of Subaru Canada, Inc. “Every day, we demonstrate our commitment to safety as we design and develop core technologies such as the Subaru Global Platform. The safety of our customers is our first priority, and we intend to meet increasing safety standards, now and in the future.”
