Advanced engineering, legendary quality and go-anywhere versatility

The 2024 Subaru Solterra is uncommon from start to finish. Built on the e-Subaru Global Platform, the strongest platform in Subaru history, the Solterra leads the way in terms of strength, safety and stability, allowing for more precise tuning of the suspension system. The powerful and efficient Subaru StarDrive® all-electric powertrain utilizes compact, powerful and efficient e-Axles, front and back. This powertrain design is engineered to deliver substantial on-demand torque at all speeds for exciting everyday driving and creates the all-electric version of Subaru Symmetrical Full-Time AWD. This world-famous AWD system is further support by a dual-function version of X-MODE® and the Grip Control feature to give the Solterra unmatched all-road versatility, completely uncommon in an EV.

Subaru StarDrive®

The groundbreaking Subaru StarDrive® powertrain consists of two e-Axles, one mounted at the front, the other at the back. Each e-Axle incorporates an integrated motor, transaxle and inverter assembly, and both are mounted along the centreline of the vehicle to achieve excellent balance, front-to-back and side-to-side. Each e-Axle develops 80 kW of power, giving the Solterra a total output of 215 horsepower and 249 lb-ft of torque. The torque is automatically shuttled to the wheels with the most traction available and the brake-based torque vectoring Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system helps ensure safe cornering. The vehicle’s battery pack is mounted low, ensuring an optimum centre of gravity and heightening stability and handling precision. The StarDrive® powertrain also incorporates three different drive modes—Normal, Eco and Power—as well as available paddle shifters that control the level of regenerative braking force and allow for single-pedal driving.

Subaru Symmetrical Full-Time AWD

The 2024 Subaru Solterra features the all-electric version of the Subaru Symmetrical Full-Time AWD system. Furthermore, with a centrally mounted e-Axle powering the front wheels and an identical e-Axle at the back, this AWD system is perfectly balanced front-to-back and left-to-right. This design creates superior straight-line stability with smooth, predictable handling at all times and under all conditions. The system also automatically shifts electric motor torque to the wheels with grip under hard acceleration or in low-traction conditions. Available paddle shifters mounted behind the steering wheel and the optional manual shift mode deliver even more control and crisp response.

Dual-function X-MODE®

Standard on all models, dual-function X-MODE® lets you navigate the trickiest driving conditions and the steepest of inclines with greater confidence and increased safety. With the push of a button, this system allows you to select between two settings tailored to specific driving conditions—namely, snow/dirt and deep snow/mud. To better manage the capability of the high-torque motors, X-MODE® has been fine-tuned to provide even more advanced levels of control and responsiveness.

Downhill Assist Control

With the X-MODE® system activated, the Downhill Assist Control feature automatically maintains a constant pre-selected speed when descending steep hills. With this advanced feature maintaining control of speed and braking, the driver is free to focus on steering and negotiating curves in the road ahead, increasing safety and confidence behind the wheel.

Grip Control

Another part of the X-MODE® system, the all-new Grip Control feature provides increased stability on rough roads or other uneven surfaces. The feature determines road surface conditions and automatically maintains a constant speed of between 2-10 km/h, depending on the setting selected. There are five different settings, controlled by a toggle switch, that allow the driver to concentrate on steering the vehicle while Grip Control does the rest.

Technologically Advanced Chassis for Superior Protection

The Subaru Solterra features a lightweight, super-strong and ultra-rigid chassis that helps create superior levels of handling, stability, ride comfort and quietness. The track is wide to boost stability even further and the fully independent suspension system has been engineered for increased refinement. The Solterra also features a suitably responsive steering ratio at all speeds, impressive ground clearance and remarkable capability overall, making this all-electric SUV equally at home on twisty tarmac or along a cottage trail.

e-Subaru Global Platform

The e-Subaru Global Platform (eSGP), the dedicated EV platform for Subaru, builds on decades of experience in engineering class-leading levels of rigidity and sheer strength. The eSGP is, in fact, the strongest platform ever built by Subaru, the result of advanced design and the liberal use of high-tensile steel. This design helps reduce vibrations and resonance felt in the body, floor, seats and steering wheel—and sets the stage for a smooth, comfortable and responsive ride. The eSGP is also engineered to better absorb impact energy coming from all directions. All of these qualities, combined with the incredibly low centre of gravity and a well-tuned suspension system, give the Solterra precise steering, superior straight-line stability, responsive handling and impressive safety overall.

Front Suspension

The MacPherson® front strut-type suspension system has been tuned to provide superior stability, ride comfort and response, while reducing noise, harshness and vibration. The front stabilizer assembly is designed to suppress rolling during cornering, even under heavy loads. This suspension design works well with the generous ground clearance and wide track to give the Solterra crisp steering, remarkable handling and genuine go-anywhere capability.

Rear Suspension

This double-wishbone suspension system on the Subaru Solterra has been specifically designed to reduce vibration, noise and harshness. The rear stabilizer assembly is engineered to suppress rolling during cornering, even under heavy loads, creating increased stability overall. Expertly balancing crisp handling with sheer refinement, the Solterra tackles rough roads and sharp corners with equal poise and precision.
