World-class confidence
comes standard

The driving forces behind the development of the Subaru BRZ include, among others, heightened safety standards and increased confidence behind the wheel. The BRZ is a purebred sports car that starts out from a position of strength: Designed with learnings from the Subaru Global Platform, the second-generation BRZ has a stronger frame with increased rigidity, lower weight and a lower centre of gravity. These features improve active and passive safety standards, striking the perfect balance between performance and safety, creating confidence on every type of road, under all possible conditions and at all times.

Superior engineering, world-class active safety

Right from the start, the Subaru BRZ has featured superb agility, superior visibility, powerful braking and class-leading safety systems. Now, with the second-generation BRZ, the active safety bar has been officially raised. The BRZ comes with available steering responsive headlights and Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection. Other advanced safety systems—such as High Beam Assist, reverse automatic braking and award-winning EyeSight®◊ Driver Assist Technology—are also available on the BRZ. These developments have raised safety standards to never-before-seen heights, creating increased confidence with every mile driven.

EyeSight Disclaimer Brief

EyeSight® is a driver assist system, which may not operate optimally under all driving conditions. The driver is always responsible for safe and attentive driving. System effectiveness depends on many factors such as vehicle maintenance, and weather and road conditions. See Owner's Manual for complete details on system operation and limitations. Please remember to turn off EyeSight®when going through a car wash.

2023 Subaru BRZ EyeSight® Driver-Assist Technology

EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology

All BRZ models with the automatic transmission feature this award-winning active safety system as standard equipment. EyeSight® utilizes two cameras mounted on the windshield to monitor activity on the road ahead, help identify potential danger and provide assistance when needed most. The system features several different types of active assistance in one, including Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Brake Assist, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Sway Warning and Lead Vehicle Start Alert.

High Beam Assist

This system automatically switches the headlights from high beams to low when approaching other vehicles in the road ahead. As soon as the other vehicles are far enough away, the high beams automatically turn back on to ensure superior visibility in dark conditions. High Beam Assist is available on Sport-tech trim equipped with EyeSight®.

2023 Subaru BRZ Reverse Automatic Braking

Reverse Automatic Braking

This advanced safety system utilizes proximity sensors to trigger a warning as your vehicle approaches an obstacle and automatically applies the brakes if a collision seems imminent. Reverse Automatic Braking is available on Sport-tech trim equipped with EyeSight®.

Subaru Rear/Side Vehicle Detection (SRVD)

SRVD uses sensors to detect other vehicles and has three functions designed to heighten safety. Using LED indicators located inside the mirror surround, Blind Spot Detection identifies vehicles approaching your blind spots. Lane Change Assist detects vehicles approaching quickly from behind when you’re about to change lanes. Lastly, while reversing out of a driveway or parking space, Rear Cross Traffic Alert signals when vehicles or pedestrians are approaching from either side of your vehicle. The SRVD system is exclusive to the Sport-tech trims.

2023 Subaru BRZ Rearview Camera

Rearview Camera

Positioned in the centre of the vehicle and located inside the trunk lid, the standard rearview camera captures a natural, distortion-free, wide view behind the vehicle and projects it onto the large centre console screen. When reversing, the screen also displays dynamic guide lines to help the driver gauge distances and the steering angles needed to perform picture-perfect manoeuvres every time.

Steering Responsive Headlights

Exclusively available on the Sport-tech trims, these LED headlights automatically angle in the direction of the turn, providing better illumination and increased levels of safety. LED headlights cast a brighter and whiter beam for improved visibility, creating safer driving scenarios even on the darkest nights.

2023 Subaru BRZ Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC)

Multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) and Traction Control System (TCS)

The Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system employs an array of sensors to monitor the vehicle to ensure maximum confidence under all driving conditions. The system features up to five driver-selectable modes, including settings for everything from snow-covered commutes to summer track-day sessions. For those who truly want to push the car to its natural limits, there’s even a setting that switches off the Traction Control System (TCS) entirely.

Braking System

The advanced braking system incorporates the latest thinking on stopping performance to deliver superior levels of control and safety. Electronic Brake-force Distribution automatically adjusts brake pressure front-to-back in response to adjust for varying vehicle loads. Brake Assist delivers added brake pressure in panic-stop situations. Brake Override cuts engine power when the brakes and the throttle are applied simultaneously, while Hill Start Assist automatically helps prevent rollback on inclines. Large ventilated discs on all four corners provide superior stopping power in all conditions and all-new side vents in the front bumper redirect air to provide improved cooling.

Engineered for superior protection

The 2023 Subaru BRZ rides on a next-generation vehicle platform, which delivers increased strength, structural rigidity and crashworthiness. In the event that a collision is unavoidable, a suite of advanced passive safety systems is on standby, ready to offer superior protection for all occupants. This combination of sheer strength and constant readiness is just part of the reason Subaru vehicles are ranked among the safest on the planet.

2023 Subaru BRZ Advanced Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frame

Next-generation Ring-shaped Reinforcement Frame

This proprietary advanced frame design is more robust than ever and capable of absorbing even more impact energy. The design strengthens the passenger compartment by linking the roof to the side pillars and the floor. As a result, impact energy coming from all directions is dissipated and diverted away from the passenger cabin. A new manufacturing process and more liberal use of high-tensile strength steel has resulted in stronger joint structures and increased rigidity overall, taking the already impressive safety standards to new heights.

Airbags

The 2023 Subaru BRZ comes standard with a total of seven airbags, a reflection of a relentless approach to passive safety. The collection comprises dual-stage deployment front airbags and seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the driver and co-driver, a driver knee airbag, as well as a pair of side-curtain airbags engineered to protect all passengers.

2023 Subaru BRZ Whiplash-reducing Front Seats

Whiplash-reducing Front Seats

The front seats are specifically engineered to dampen the effects of a rear-end collision, the most common accident scenario, and reduce the chance of neck injuries. The unique features of these seats include an extremely rigid frame, energy-absorbing inner seat springs and an anti-whiplash headrest. These features have been exhaustively tested to ensure the very highest levels of performance under duress.

Break-away Engine

The chassis design has amplified one of the trademark characteristics of the Subaru BRZ—its inherently low centre of gravity and low positioning of the SUBARU BOXER® engine. In this design, the engine is set even lower than the previous generation BRZ, which makes for a safer vehicle. Should a head-on collision occur, the engine and transmission are both designed to absorb impact energy and then break away from the vehicle structure and drop below the passenger compartment for added safety.
